John Muir Way

A level 1/2 ride for Hybrids and Tourers.  This tour can be extended by taking a fourth day to ride the route or spending a night in Edinburgh and visiting the sights.  This itinerary is the West to East option..
  1. Helensburgh to Kilsyth
    Meeting point Helensburgh Rail station.
Today is a mix or cycleway, minor roads and canal paths with very little ascent. A great start to the day with impressive views over the Firth of Clyde. After Loch Lomond we travel along the West Highland Way for approx. 10Km this can be a bit rough. Once we have stopped for the evening there will be plenty of opportunity to explore the John Muir Way on foot if you desire.
  2. Kilsyth to Edinburgh
Day two is spent almost exclusively on canal towpath hence the longest mileage of the tour 54 miles. This stretch has lots to see and even has a few Outlander connections if you are a fan. You have the evening to explore Edinburgh or if you wish stay over for a second night and have another day to see the sights.
  3. Edinburgh to Dunbar
A real mix of terrain today with minor roads, woodland paths, cycle paths and coastal path. Mainly flat with great views of the Bass rock and the other Forth Isles. The tour ends at the John Muir visitor centre..
